On 5-6 December 2017, 25 APM directors from the Rhône-Alpes region met at the Montenvers in the Chamonix Valley for their annual meeting. An APM club is an entity that brings together business leaders on a monthly basis to work with an outside expert on various topics in order to grow their businesses sustainably.
The strength of the APM is that it is open to diverse transversal subjects. Bringing both technical and educational material, we reached our base camp, the Montenvers hotel situated at 1900 m, by train.
Mountain Path acts as an expert to raise awareness on issues related to decision-making, cooperation and crisis management. Part of the subject was tackled in the evening by the light of headlamps through a nocturnal orientation race in a snowy mountain area followed by a workshop of self-study under the starry sky before a warm debriefing at the hotel.
The next day, after a safety briefing, three groups went snowshoeing. Participants were confronted with an unforeseen event (an avalanche). This scenario allowed us to focus on the ability to work collectively, on alertness to weak signals and on how to switch over to « crisis mode ».
The Montenvers is particularly well suited for this type of seminar and training, given the quality of its hospitality and the variety and beauty of the site of the Mer de Glace.
